EADS North America Test & Services receives U.S. Navy Performance-Based Logistics (PBL) contract for engine test systems

Irvine, California, January  09, 2008

A multi-year Performance-based Logistics (PBL) contract has been awarded to EADS North America Test & Services for the support of U.S. Navy aircraft engine test systems deployed worldwide.

The contract is for material support, global repair services and obsolescence management of the test systems, which are used to test jet and turboshaft engines on Navy fighter aircraft and helicopters.

Awarded by the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division at Lakehurst, New Jersey, the contract covers the U.S. Navy’s Jet Engine Test Instrumentation (JETI) and Shaft Engine Test Instrumentation (SETI) systems. To date, 32 JETI and four SETI systems have been acquired by the Navy for deployment aboard aircraft carriers and in land-based installations.

EADS North America Test & Services’ support initially will be provided in a three-year ramp up phase, which is to be followed by a 10-year, full-scale Performance-based Logistics program. Total value of the contract is $4.1 million.

“This is a ground-breaking contract for us, and we will commit our full resources to ensuring the best support for the U.S. Navy,” said Jim Mulato, the Executive Vice President of EADS North America Test and Services. “It also is another example of how the Navy increasingly is relying on Performance-based Logistics for its fielded systems.”

Performance-based Logistics contracts are designed to streamline the supply chain, provide lower life-cycle costs, improve weapon system readiness and reliability, and reduce the logistics footprint.

EADS North America Test & Services teamed with two industry-leading Performance-based Logistics subcontractors for the new Navy contract. AAR Defense Systems and Logistics will provide inventory warehousing and distribution services, utilizing the company’s extensive experience that includes support for other EADS business activity. Manufacturing Technology, Inc. was selected to provide component obsolescence management services, which is a key element in Performance-based Logistics support.
