Joseph Smyth is named EADS North America’s
Vice President of Tanker Operations

EADS North America has named Joseph Smyth (Colonel, U.S. Air Force Ret.) as Vice President of Tanker Operations. This appointment further strengthens the company’s management lineup as a teammate of, and principal subcontractor to, Northrop Grumman for the KC-30 advanced tanker bid for the U.S. Air Force’s next-generation aerial refueling aircraft.

Smyth brings considerable Air Force program management experience to this position. As a career acquisition officer with the service, his previous roles included System Program Director for both the E-10A Multi-Sensor Command and Control Aircraft and the Multi-Platform Radar Technology Insertion Program. He successfully guided these programs through the Office of Secretary of Defense Milestone Reviews for development, leading to their production. Smyth retired from the Air Force in July of this year as the Commander of the E-10/MP-RTIP Systems Group at the Electronic Systems Center, Hanscom AFB, MA.

Prior to joining EADS North America, Smyth was the advanced concepts group leader for Modern Technology Solutions, Inc., supporting government acquisition and engineering efforts for the Air Force, DARPA, the Navy and other national agencies.

“Joseph Smyth adds a new dimension to EADS North America’s advanced tanker program management,” said Ralph D. Crosby, Jr., Chairman and CEO of EADS North America. “He provides significant defense acquisition experience to our program efforts in support of the Northrop Grumman-led KC-30 industry team.”

Smyth works at EADS North America’s Melbourne, Florida office, which supports the Northrop Grumman KC-30 team located in the same city.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Tulane University, a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and a Masters Degree in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Smyth also is a graduate of the Air Force Test Pilot School.
